Paints, and the painting trade, have changed considerably over the past few decades. Before attempting your own project, or contracting with a painter, you should familiarize yourself with the basics. You might begin by getting up-to-date on some of the basic choices regarding what is the most appropriate paint for your particular job.

Now comes the really difficult part . . . .

 

You will want to size up the job. Is is something you can handle yourself? To what standard do you want it done? Just what constitutes a good job? How much is required to do a the kind of job you want?

Using the right tools is important. Here are comments on the topic, and tips on how best to use particular tools.

Known as 'bright work' in marine painting, it can really be satisfying to lay down a beautiful finish on doors, floors, furniture, etc. Also, there is some useful information about deck coatings.

Decorating should be fun. If you don't choose the right contractor, the experience could be anything but fun. Here is some advice on getting quotes and sizing up prospective contractors. Cost and quality are paramount.
